Singapore features the most bars from Asia on this year’s list. By Holly Graham.
This year’s 51-100 list has been announced ahead of The World’s 50 Best Bars 2021 ceremony on December 7 in London. The list includes bars from 34 cities across 26 countries, 28 of which are new entries. Eight of these new entries come from Asia in a strong showing considering five of the bars opened in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Singapore leads Asia with three bars on the list, but it’s Kuala Lumpur’s Bar Trigona that ranks the highest in the region at 52 followed by Hong Kong’s Penicillin at 59 and Singapore’s Sago House at 63.
Due to limited travel in 2020 and 2021, voting rules change to reflect this. The list is based on the voting panel’s experiences at bars between March 2020 to September 2021 inclusive, with no requirement to cast international votes, but the option was available if they had travelled internationally.
