Our definitive recipe for The Last Word.

This recipe was first mentioned in our story on the history of The Last Word.

25ml London dry gin
25ml Maraschino
25ml Green chartreuse
25ml Lime juice

Shake over ice, strain and serve up. No garnish necessary, but a lime wheel is not out of place.

Although the earliest surviving recipe states simple Chartreuse, the drink works best with the green variation. Given the strong flavours, this is a job for a robust, high-proof gin – remember that early 20th century gins tended to be bottled at higher proof than today.
