Normally blended into bulk wine, this bobal is a single-variety wine that with flavours sitting between pinot noir and merlot.

What is it Sierra Norte comes from Camporrobles, one of nine municipalities in Utiel-Requena, where bobal is the local grape. The variety normally blended to make bulk, entry-level wine but this is one hundred per cent bobal. The grapes spend six months in new French oak and undergo malolactic fermentation.

What it tastes like Richer than a pinot noir but lighter than a merlot, the soft acidity and low tannins make it very easy drinking, together with some menthol, berries and a touch of coffee in the finish. Great with duck.
