This recipe was first published as part of our feature on black drinks.

This beautiful drink was created as part of a literary-themed menu at Pouring Ribbons (New York City). The high contrast garnish and liquid really showcases the attraction of making pure-black drinks.

45ml Blanco tequila
15ml Espadin mezcal
15ml Lime juice
15ml Agave syrup
2tsp Activated charcoal raspberry preserve*
1ds Bittermens Xocolatl Mole bitters

Shake all the ingredients over ice and strain into a balloon glass of crushed ice. Garnish with an orchid sprayed with activated charcoal, and serve on a black lace heart-shaped doily.
