Last year’s winner of the “Legend of the List” award and Asia’s best bar in 2017 and 2018, Manhattan in Singapore is the recipient of the inaugural Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award 2020. By Holly Graham.
50 Best Bars darling Manhattan at the Regent Singapore has bagged many an award from the organisation, and 2020 saw the bar claim the Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award – the first time this accolade has been part of Asia’s 50 Best Bars.
The award is voted for by the Asia’s 50 Best Bars Academy, made up of 230 industry professionals around Asia. They were asked to vote for a bar that has provided the best hospitality experience in the past 18 months, and Manhattan was recognised for its stellar hospitality.
The bar is no stranger to high achievements on Asia’s 50 Best Bars. 2017 and 2018 saw Manhattan take the top spot and win Best Bar in Asia, and while the bar fell to second place in 2019 – when The Old Man Hong Kong became number one – Manhattan was awarded Legend of the List 2019.
In just over two weeks time, the industry will find out who will be number one on the 2020 list, as the ranking is announced in a digital ceremony on May 14. On May 7, the Bartender’s Bartender award will be announced, followed by the final ranking the week after, which will also include the One to Watch, Highest Climber and Highest New Entry awards.
The New York style bar and shrine to American whiskey has been dishing out top notch hospitality and cocktails inspired by New York’s history since 2014, and is currently led by head bartender Sophia Kang and bar manager David Nguyen-Luu. Of the award, David said: “Being recognised by our peers across Asia is an absolute honour for us, and a huge testament to our service ethos.”
We’ve no doubt they’ll be making the cut on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2020, so tune in on May 14 where we’ll be publishing the results.
