The Tasting Alliance – parent company of wine and spirits competitions such as the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, the San Francisco International Wine Competition and the New York World Wine & Spirits Competition – is launching the first Singapore World Spirits Competition (SWSC) next month.
Taking place on June 5 and 6 at The ExciseMan Whisky Bar in Singapore, owner of The Tasting Alliance Anthony Dias Blue says the SWSC will apply the same stringent judging methodology developed over the years in San Francisco and New York to a new Singapore competition focused on spirits available in Asia, scored on blind tastings by judges predominantly from the region.
Winning participants will be awarded either double gold, gold, silver or bronze and in addition to the medals, The Tasting Alliance provides a variety of post-event support programs to help winners turn awards into effective sales tools, as well as sponsoring tasting events throughout the year where trade professionals and consumers can sample the winners.
SWSC is now open to submissions, with a strong focus on spirits consumed and produced in Asia, including baijiu, shochu, and soju, and Anthony hopes winning will provide the top bottles easier entry into the global market. “Baijiu is the most popular spirit in the world, but it is mostly consumed in China. Winning a medal from SWSC could help establish these brands as one of the world’s – not just Asia’s – top spirits,” he adds.
