While 2020 has been a very tough year, we at DRiNK are extremely proud that our annual awards could happen for fifth year running, especially as it gives our industry family in China and Asia something to celebrate. The DRiNK Awards 2020 edition celebrated the best bartenders, bars, brands and hospitality heroes of China and Asia’s bar industry at the Jing An Shangri-La, West Shanghai, with pop up bars from some of China’s best.
One of the big Asia winners of the night was Jigger & Pony (Singapore), who continued their stellar year by winning Bar Team (Asia) and Bar of the Year (Asia). 2020 also saw Bannie Kang crowned as the first female to win Bartender of the Year (Asia). The Hope Group, the group behind Hope & Sesame in Guangzhou as well as other concepts, scored a hattrick winning the Entrepreneurship Award, Regional Bar of the Year (South), and the coveted Bar of the Year – a testament to their innovation and proactiveness throughout the challenges of the pandemic.
The winners for China’s categories were revealed to the live audience of over 650 guests, while the winners of the Asia awards were presented virtually. Winners of the Asia awards categories were decided by a panel of 150 industry professionals in the Asia region. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and its effect on the bar industry, all judges were asked to carefully based on who, what and where had inspired them in each category this year.
The DRiNK Awards 2020 crowned 23 bars, brands and people and here, without further ado, is a list of all the winners:
