Kuala Lumpur Cocktail Week (KLCW) makes its much-anticipated return from the 22nd to the 27th this month. Just like last year, the week-long celebration will see a stellar line-up of guest bartenders, industry focused seminars and cocktail pairing dinners across the city.
The organizers have invited 27 international bars to participate in the one-night bar takeovers this year, including, Bar Leone, Bee’s Knees, BKK Social Club, Handshake Speakeasy, Jigger & Pony, Le Chamber, Penicillin and many more. Curated in collaboration with Bar Convent Singapore, the seminars will cover topics ranging from olfactory mixology (featuring Hadrien Moudoulaud of Bar Nouveau) to the art of hospitality (featuring Philip Bischoff of BKK Social Club).
Kuala Lumpur’s bar scene has been developing fast over the past few years, and KLCW continues to serve as a great platform to delevate Malaysia’s cocktail scene while introducing a wider audience to craft cocktails and fine spirits.
Two bars from Chinese mainland will make their debut at KLCW this year, and both are from Shanghai. Dentree, the first and only carbon-neutral bar in China, will present two of its best-selling cocktails and two cocktails from its soon-to-be-launched new menu at Rahk on April 22. “This is our first time to participate in an international cocktail week and our aim is to showcase Dentree’s commitment to sustainability to local bartenders and consumers.” says Gary Hu, Dentree’s General Manager, who will be working behind the bar alongside bar manager Jerry Zhao.
Dre Yang, founder of Pony Up, will take over Remedy with bartender Iki Peng on April 24. The duo will bring four of the most popular drinks from one of the hottest bars in Shanghai right now, including Ruby Sour and Cuppa Negroni. “I’m very happy to represent Shanghai in Kuala Lumpur Cocktail Week,” Dre says, “Pony Up’s signature style is serving drinks in a fun and fast way, and I really hope we can offer that experience to KL’s cocktail lovers!”
