What is it This Wild Turkey release was first bottled for master distiller Jimmy Russell’s 45th anniversary at the firm back in 1999. The bottle has just been redesigned from its previous more genteel iteration to this bigger, bolder label, celebrating the family legacy being passed on from Russell (now 82) to son Eddie (55).

What it tastes like The whiskey is bottled at 10 years, what Russell considers the sweet spot for mature bourbon, and still manages a racy, minty freshness up front despite the age, evolving to typical burned vanilla before a calming aged quality takes over like church pews or damp wintry forests. The mouthfeel slips in silky, without bourbon’s brash attack, giving off more vanilla, that Wild Turkey rye-influenced pepperiness, milk chocolate and hazelnut, and drying out to a spice-backed oak-carried finish. 45 per cent abv.
